you know when you are at the pool/beach/lake and its really hot outside so you want to jump in the water to cool off but you know that its going to be freezing- so you dip your little toe in, take a step back. put a whole foot in, decide that its too cold. try the other toe, go back to the safety of your towel. then you accept that if you are going to go in (and you ARE going in) you're just gonna have to close your eyes and jump?
this is my close my eyes and jump post.
this blog has morphed from diary to travelogue to contemplative public space. basically, i only wanted to write when i felt like i had something "meaningful" to say. apparently, i am only profound about every other month or so. therefore, in an effort to write a little more, think a little more and entertain you a little more (and by "you" i mean my mom- hi!) i'm going to try something new:
(insert awesome weekly feature title here)
my thought process: hmm, i want to write more often (yeah, its pretty hot out). maybe i'll write a weekly post (brr, that water is cold). about 3-5 "things" that happened/someone said/were a highlight/really irked me/i'm thinking about/etc (i can't feel my foot). i can't possibly start without the perfect title that would keep you (mom) coming back again and again (swimming is SO overrated).
but a childhood spent in san diego kicked in and i'm going for it. feel free to suggest possible titles, disagree, share your three to five, etc.
3-5 "things" that happened/someone said/were a highlight/really irked me/i'm thinking about/etc this week
1) cupcakes. did people start adding crack to the batter? or was angelina in some cupcake ad that i missed? why are cupcakes all of a sudden the new frozen yogurt? don't get me wrong, i love a good cupcake. and i understand the appeal (its like cake! but in a single serving, don't need a fork, SO cute cause they're small package!). but seriously? a new cupcake place (yes, they only sell cupcakes and beverages) opened in georgetown and i was in the area so I decided to try it out. but the line was out the door and down the street. and there was a four cupcake limit (i only needed one but i was on my way to a party and wanted to share the joy). according to the owners, its like that all the time and sometimes they sell out and have to close early. yes, the cupcakes were delicious. yes, the place was adorable. but i could have gone to the store, picked up some red velvet mix and baked my own damn cupcakes in the amount of time it took to get to the front of the line. so. dear the people who make things cool: enough with the cupcakes.
2) spontaneity. reason number 8, 475, 223 that i love being young, not in school, and at an awesome job that doesn't stress me out too much: i decided this morning that i'm hopping on a bus to new york to hang out with the two guys that are simultaneously the reason i survived/almost died my freshman year of college.
3) theatre people. why are you so nice? and fun? and quirky and cool and great and accepting? why can't everyone be like you?
and just in case anyone snarky is reading: 4) that's so raven. first of all, this is the worst show that ever aired on the disney channel/tv. oh, wait. thats all.

I have to say that I'm in favor of the cupcake craze, mostly because I'm hoping it'll bring a rise in places that have snacks. I love snacks, and it seems like there are only grocery stores or full-meal places. More snacks!!
you make a very adulterous point Dossinger...
